Welcome to our first gust blogger of 2015, Mary Waibel! She's the fabulous author of Faery Marked, which happens to be the book I'm reading this Friday. So excited to have her as part of my Alliances blog swap!

Friendship
Guest Post by Mary Waibel
Friendship. It's been my experience that most teens have groups of friends, with some closer than others. Girls, especially, have that friend they confide in about everything. Their BFF. When I wrote Faery Marked, Callie always had a BFF. In the first drafts, her name was Ariel. In the finished copy her name became Alyssa. But, no matter the version, the two have been BFF’s since they could walk.
They know each other so well, that Callie worries about keeping secrets from Alyssa. So, to keep her secret safe, she lies to her BFF.
I know, I can hear it now. No one would lie to their BFF. And, it wasn’t until a reviewer mentioned they didn’t like the way Callie treated Alyssa, that I realized what I’d done.
Not only had Callie lied to Alyssa, but there were times she avoided her and blew her off. Not really BFF behavior, right? And, nothing I can do to change this now. Or is there?
See, once this reviewer pointed this issue out to me, I realized I’d unconsciously done something I can work into the next book in the series. And, with most things in life, there are multiple paths I can take. But, no matter which path I choose, I know now that there needs to be consequences for what happened in book 1. The only question now is, will Callie be able to repair the damage she’s done or will she lose her BFF?

About Faery Marked:
For centuries humans have been banned from Faery, but dangerous times call for dangerous measures. Declared Champion by the Faery Queen, Callie is assigned a Guardian, and tasked with finding the Cordial―a magical elixir needed to keep the portal to the Faery realm a secret from humans.
The upside? Reece Michaels, the boy she's been crushing on for years, is her Guardian. Callie hopes that, by spending time with Reece, he'll start to see her as more than just his best friend's sister.
The downside? She's in a race not only against time, but against another Champion, and a rogue Guardian―a Guardian who stands to threaten her developing relationship with Reece.
Magic, mistaken identities, and hidden agendas are the least of Callie's worries when she learns that the Cordial requires a sacrifice. Will Callie be willing to risk everything―even Reece―to complete her task as Champion? Or will she let the portal open, and doom both realms?
