I can't help myself. This is one of my most favorite scenes I've ever written. It's the "meet cute" from my still-untitled-but-getting-better Pilot WIP, now known as the Madion Sea Trilogy.
Expect this one to come out sometime in 2016.

I awoke slowly, the sound of unfamiliar animals coming to me first, followed by a cold breeze. As I tried to move, pain shot up from every single angle of my body, and my head was pounding. I was hurt badly, and I wondered for a moment if I was going to bleed to death here on this God-forsaken island or if my ship would explode before then.
I looked up at the blue sky, peppered between a thick canopy of trees. I was well hidden from sight here; even if they came looking for me (which they wouldn't), they'd have a hard time finding me. I had flown way off course in my desire to shoot down the princeling.
Still, I took some solace in the fact that I killed another son of that God-damned mass murdering king.
A noise startled me and I turned my head slowly to find the source.
And then I saw him.
The stupid princeling was alive and standing in front of my ship.
Fear and anger gripped at me, knowing that I was badly injured and he appeared to be walking just fine. I could smell fuel and knew that my ship was in danger of catching fire. I hated that the last thing I was going to see in this world was him.
"Hah," he laughed loud enough for me to hear.
"What's so funny?" I snarled back through my helmet, hating myself for even engaging this Kylaen royal with my words.
"Serves you right," he said, smirking as if he had something to smirk about.
"For what?" I barked, the pain in my leg so bad it made my eyes water.
"Shooting me down," he replied. "Looks like you're in worse shape than I am, too." He chuckled again. "Serves you right."
"Go to hell," I growled, leaning back. If I was going to die, I was going to die in peace, not being snarked at by this stupid Kylaen.
I heard the grunting of my ship and my eyes flew open just as he had climbed on top of my ship to sit on the broken nose. I was in too much pain to fight back, and my gun was no where to be found.
"Yep," he observed, with that stupid smirk on his face. "You definitely got what you deserved. Shouldn't have shot at me."
"You shouldn't have invaded my country," I snarled. It wasn't that I had any love for Rave, but damn it, I hated his smugness.
His eyes widened for a moment and I thought that I had finally done something to wipe that smile off of his face. To my supreme annoyance, he tilted his head back and let out a throaty laughter.
"Oh, you are witty," he said, before nodding. "And technically right. But it wasn't my decision. I was, as they say, just following orders."
"And I was just following orders to blow your stupid ass out of the sky," I growled.
"Aren't we at an impasse then?" he said. He seemed to be enjoying this conversation, as he looked down on the side of my ship and read the inscription. "Theo, huh? Well, you must be a pretty high ranking pilot then. I hear the Ravens only allow you to put your name on your ship after you've survived plenty of battles."
I moved out of anger, but a low hiss emitted from my mouth as the pain in my legs came roaring up my body. I leaned back and sighed, ready to admit defeat.
"Please let me die in peace," I asked, unable to look at him.
"Oh, you aren't going to die today," he said, leaning into my small cabin. If I had half a mind, I could snap his neck right now, but it was enough just to breathe. His hands found my seat strap and unhooked it, and he pulled me out by my arms.
I couldn't help the scream that came out as my legs were pulled from the shredded metal.
"Yeow, buddy," he said, as he stopped pulling. He put one hand over his ear and muttered. "You sure got a girly scream."
I didn't even register his comment. "My legs are caught. Just leave me here. I'm as good as dead anyways."
"Naw, then who am I going to talk to while I wait to get picked up?" he said, sounding like he was waiting for dinner. "C'mon, we can get you out of here. Just take a deep breath. One…two…"
I didn't hear him count to three as he yanked my legs out of the mess and I screamed again, the pain so bad I almost lost consciousness. But blessedly it subsided, and the next thing I knew, he was laying me on the ground.
I cracked open my eyes and somewhere in the back of my mind, I registered who he was, but I was quickly losing lucidity.
"There, now, Theo of Raven, let's take a look at you," he said, pulling my helmet off.
