Things that make me happy

---WARNING: MAJOR BRAGGING POST AHEAD---
---PROCEED WITH CAUTION---

*Contented sigh*

Things are going pretty damn amazing right now.

I posted this on Twitter yesterday, but I wanted to share some incredible stats:

I started this whole book publishing shenanigans in February, but didn't quite get started on the marketing piece until April.

In April, I had:
  • 18 Twitter followers
  • 103 Page Likes
  • 0 people had my book on their to-read queue on GoodReads
  • 0 books sold
Today, four months later, I have:
  • 545 Twitter followers (3,306% increase)
  • 329 Page Likes (219% increase)
  • 812 people have added my book to their to-read queue on Goodreads
  • 136 books sold, with another 65 in my car to be sold at the upcoming Baltimore Comic-Con
And there's also these little statistics that I still can't believe:
  • 1 75,000-word book published
  • 1 75,000-word book written and currently being edited
  • Umpteen 75,000-word books in progress
  • 1 Independent Press Company established
There are many, many days when I feel like I'm not doing enough, like I'm not marketing enough or being strategic enough. That I'm screaming into a vacuum and I just need to throw all my plans out the window and offer my book for free and spend all the money on all the advertising and all that.

Then I stop and look at the real, honest-to-God-metrics on my progress in four short months, and I realize that the plan is working, slowly, but surely, and every single decision that I've made up to this point has been the right one (Save for not going with a universal ISBN, but that's another story). Where there have been roadblocks or "no thank yous," I've gotten around them, continuing to push forward.

Today, I've sold a grand total of four books, thanks to some (paid for) advertising on Bargain Booksy. I'm hopeful that I will sell another 18 more, so that I will recoup the cost of the advertising. But even if I don't, I'm happy that another four people have my book on their kindle.

But, let's be real here: Book sales and profits aside, there's really only one thing making me super happy today...

  3. Don't forget that you're selling all over the place at PHS!!!! (We sold all three books and we need the new shipment in because the school is most likely going to buy more copies to put in the library!!!!)
