What's In a Name?

Tonight, the blog is all about aliases and celebrity baby names

Odd choice of topic, I know. But stay with me here.

So in my book, Razia is a bounty hunter, who hunts and captures pirates. Pirates, like in traditional media, are stealing and pillaging, as they do. And Razia's job is to find these pirates, and bring them to the bounty office, where she will get their reward.

What makes her job a little easier is the fact that there is a universal banking system that everyone uses. Which means that somewhere there is a database of every transaction anyone ever makes (there's no cash, only credits). Because she belongs to a "union" of sorts, she has access to this great big database, and thus can find any pirate she wants based on where and how they spend their money.

But wait!

Pirates realized that they no longer had anonymity with regards to their purchases, so they began to create multiple aliases, trying to stay hidden from bounty hunters. As they get captured, their aliases get reported and put into their bounty profile, like the below:

Now, you'll see for our friend Relleck, who at this point is the most wanted person in the universe, he's got a list of things he's wanted for, a reward, known aliases and accomplices, pirate web affiliation (that's the "union" thing I was talking about).

Which brings me to Celebrity Baby Names.

I really hate creating names. I think they all sound stupid when I make them up. Really stupid. So in lieu of having to create a crazy name, I went to the craziest people I know - celebrities - and stole their baby names.

So you'll see, whenever there's a pirate with funny alias names, just know that somewhere out there, a real person has been blessed by their crazy parents with that same name.

Feel sorry for that person.

Side note: What do you think of the silhouette-looking icon? I obviously cannot draw, and I cannot/do not want to afford buying stock photos. But I wanted to have a Facebook-like feel to the pirate intrawebs.

Looking for your feedback...
